Bus drivers have a habit of smoking. It's because they are poorly managed by people who smoke. I speak from over 30 years experience of working with bus drivers and their managers.

Wow you hit the nail on the head there. I agree with you entirely. Bus etiquete is poorly practiced. I was asatonished to the point of bemusement though, to witness a particular bus driver on the 75 route smoking a fag out the window while driving. And on several occassions...

Ah Male leg spreaders!!!!!!!! Yes (Well I mean no!) Anyway could we devise a strategy for dealing with them? Not only on the bus but on the Luas also?? Are they minding their sperm count or what?

My walking stick is not an accessory for prodding male leg spreaders with, yes I really am disabled and those priority seats are meant for people like me.

Other advice to bus users? Don't live in Clondalkin, the suburb of Dublin with lots of bus lanes and no busses to run on them.

"By all means sit in the priority seats but get up off your arse when someone needs it more than you, as in elderly people, pregnant women or those who look like they need a seat, like women with small children..."

If you see a man with a small child, stay sitting. He's bound to be odd and terribly independent. He's likely to resent being offered a seat and is probably training his child to put up with other people. He'd see it as interference with his childcare programme if you made any special allowance for him and his charge.

May I add one extra to this great list...

If you intend to speak to the person next to you, wear a flower (like Oscar Wilde). Otherwise you may well frighten them by your words and disturb the peaceful start to their day. Travellers in capital cities prefer to left alone on their journeys.
