There's a handy taxi tank on Parnell St, across from the cinema, Cineworld. Its only round the corner from O'Connell St, (on the AIB side) and never as busy...

That's pointless Rob. Taxis just don't pick up off the main routes anymore. I learned this the hard way a few weeks ago. Had gotten as far as the Four Courts and had to turn back and get a nitelink after tons of cabs just drove past.

If it's late & you're looking for a taxi to get you out of town, don't join the 2 hour queue on Stephen's green. You're better off heading out a bit on one of the main routes & flagging down a taxi there. Often taxi drivers will pick up on the way in / out of town. Saves them the agro they get in the rank. I learned this the hard way.

If you are in town with kids and want to sit down, let them play or use the loo pop into ENFO the gov environment info agency on Wicklow Street not too far from Tourist Office on St Andrew's St.it's such a haven and they'll be well entertained.
Or if they want a run round- the playing fields at Trinity are the place to go- big wide open space - Stephen's Green too much water and too crowded to let them loose. On a sunny day if you and partner fancy a drink go to The Pav at the back of Trinity you can sit out (not 100% sure you can bring drinks out these days - used to be able to ),the kids can play.If you have sambos / snacks for kids and don't need/want to buy them anything go to The Buttery in TCD in the Atrium (to the left as you come in through the Arch) you can eat your own food unmolested and get cheap coffee. Another good place for loos is M&S on Grafton Street- top floor.

Mexican food in Dublin is awful. If you must have Tex Mex food, go to Cactus Jack's near the Jervis Shopping Centre. For Italian, the early bird special (before 6:30 PM) at Toscana is excellent. I actually really like Toscana and think it is the best Italian I have tried here (and I have tried many places). The market in Temple Bar on Saturdays is also fun. It isn't that big but there is a guy who sells excellent salsa. There is usually another vendor who sells excellent pasta type "sauces" like pestos. They make good gifts. For beer, go to the Porter House (Central off Grafton has better food but the one on Parliment has a better atmosphere unless you like disco balls at night). If you are a vegetarian, they do a good sweets "burger" and excellent brie and sweet potato salad.

This is just the sort of advice I need for my first visit to Dublin this century. No 5 and No 8 are especially brilliant.

I'd also like to thank Elana. I may well have need to go through that lingerie department.

Can we have a second installment please...
