The handy Dublin journey planner

RedMum | May 5, 2006

HERE’S a handy web page for the visitor to Dublin or indeed for those who live in Dublin and who are not so sure of their way around, a Dublin journey planner.

Simply type in your starting place and where you want to go. You can find out about public transport, or by walking or cycling and if you do the latter, the page even tells you how many calories the walk or cycle will burn off as well as the distance (this journey is 2.94 miles). We also know from the page that the walk will take 35 minutes if the pedestrian is moving at five miles an hour.
Here’s it’s instructions to go from North Circular Road at Ballybough to Frances Street with a handy map and what appears to be fool-proof directions.

It’s quite good — but not exactly fantastic. I tried to use it to get directions via bus to Maynooth. The best it could do was recommend that I spend 3 hours walking to Lucan; seems it doesn’t know about the existence of buses, or that trains go to Maynooth too!

still, I would have burned 1100 calories in the process if I’d taken its advice ;)

Jaysus only 1100 calories, a mars bar and packet of crisps would soon counter that.

    Hi

Can you give street directions from Dublin Airport to Lower Gardiner Street please, BY CAR have looked at all kinds of maps and directions but cannot get one that will take me from Dublin Airport to Lower Gardiner Street.

Would be amazing if you could

    Thanks

    Pat

    0.9 km
    1 min

    5. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the M1 ramp
    0.7 km
    1 min

    6. Merge onto M1
    4.5 km
    3 mins

    7.
    Continue on N1/Swords Rd
    Continue to follow N1

    3.3 km
    5 mins

    8. Turn left at Upper Gardiner St
    0.3 km

    9. Continue straight onto Mountjoy Square W
    0.2 km

    10. Continue on Middle Gardiner St
