Dirty Dublin’s Dirty Beaches
RedMum | May 9, 2006TWO beaches in Dublin have failed to pass EU minimum pollution standards due to the levels of sewage, Merrion Strand and Sutton Burrow beach.

Tests showed that faecal coliforms were detected indicating the presence of human or animal sewage. According to Joe Duffy’s Liveline earlier the sewage came from hte more affluent/effluent parts of the city. Just in time for the summer too. Anyone for a swim?

Dollymount was not awarded the Blue Flag for 2007 but the Corpo deserves a lot of credit for the condition of the beach. There are huge rocks to delineate a car park and to prevent cars using the beach as a race track. The pedestrian areas are kept clean and tidy and the waterline is raked regularly to get rid of the algae.
It’s a pity that the beach is left filthy by day trippers, many of them foreigners, when the sun is shining.
BRING YOUR RUBBISH HOME OR USE THE BINS!!
