Quickpark Woes

Daragh | May 16, 2006

One of the few good things about Dublin Airport, is the Quickpark facility next door to it. Or, so was the case until about a month ago. Quickpark is a huge car park next door to the Airport, where, for EUR 5 a day, you can park your car long term, and avail of a free, 5 minute bus transfer to and from the Arrivals level at the Airport.

What’s even better is, that you book the space via their website, and they send you an individual access code via SMS text message direct to your mobile. As a result of number plate verification, they know if you overstay your predicted period, and can automatically deduct the difference.

Unfortunately however, for the past two months or so, their website has been out of action, with a pretty un-helpful “Please arrive at the car park to see if we have availability on your way to the airport” message posted there, and not a whole lot more info. Not exactly designed to instill confidence, and the thought of having to swing by to see if they had a space prior to tackling the madness that is Dublin Airport check-in (more on that another time) is just not an option.

As I’m taking a few flights over the next few weeks, I’ve been keeping an eye on their website fairly regularly, and recently, the following has appeared there:

SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.

The booking system is being upgraded at the moment & should be released within two weeks.

If you wish to use the car park up to and including mid May it is open 24 hours per day.

MONDAY
SPACES WOULD BE AVAILABLE call to the car park, take a ticket & pay on your exit.

TUESDAY
SPACES WOULD BE AVAILABLE call to the car park, take a ticket & pay on your exit.

WEDNESDAY – SUNDAY
On the day call into the car park & it will be open depending on availability.

Well, at least we now know that they’re not going bust (which had been rumoured for quite a while), but, it’s still far from ideal, and I for one know that I won’t even be attempting to park my car there for a flight this coming weekend. Fingers crossed they get it sorted, because, when it works, it really is a very good service.

This is going nowhere, after checking for a few days during this week and the week after their system still off line, now a new excuse about a problem in the system, probably a tale nothing to do with the system, it was working before OK.

And when you phone nobody bothers to take the call, even they have no answer machine or a message for the customers on what to do.

People travelling aren’t sure that there will be a space or not. Not good enough

Still noanswer or message on Phone Still no booking service , I would probably take my chances on a space if someone would answer the phone and assure me that it is still open

Flying out of Dublin on Wed 2nd August coming, and am dismayed by the message on the quickpark website.

Reading between the lines it reads more like:”We barely have to advertise any longer so why bother with the upkeep of a booking system when we are guaranteed a full car park every day?”

yes totally agree very very frustrating. I used the quickpark online booking service in Feb and found it very handy. Flying to Berlin now in October and thought I would book a car park space today and got the no online booking message, and by your comments seems to have been that way now for months. Not really good enought is it??

My story is even weirder. I emailed them about this lack of booking service and got an odd reply from a female who gave me her first name. She replied first asking me to email my flight details then she said “she would keep a space for me”?She didnt ask for any car reg or anything. So im supposed to just turn up and say heh remember me? lol ridiculous. I still dont know what it was all about. The evening of flight I drove to quickpark but the machine at entrance was out of action and the barrier across road. We pushed the help button and no answer. The weather was terrible with rain and wind and we saw a chair blowing across the road in front of us. It was like something out of 28 days later at end of world. Nobody to be seen . They must have been in their hut and would not come out!!. We saw cars coming out of carpark so it could not be full and even if it is put a sign up and get off your bum to tell people. It was appauling. I still wonder what the email from quickpark was about . telling me I had a guaranteed space. Must have been a sick joke. They are a bunch of …….. em “annoying people”.

I also got an email from the lady telling me that she would “keep a space for me”.
When I turned up, there was a “Car Park Full” sign up. However I showed the attendant a copy of the email and got in with no bother.
    So hats off to Quickpark!

I believe that online booking is now operating again

The Sign they have Is Down on the ground where it is very dificult to see in a very green colour that makes it even more difficult to see. I tried to book on line since the prebooking system was reinstalled and it was so complicated and user unfriendly that I could not manage to preebook, Who Designs This Website ???

It is possible to book quickpark online:

    details: first google “quickpark”

click no2 on the list http://195.218.118.114/QP

before putting in your dates you have to register yourself. (follow the prompts)

once you are registered enter your dates (note: the calendar box does not work). Instead enter the dates in dd/mm/yyyy form.

when you reach the payment details: my laser security code would not verify. however visa worked fine.

Finally, be patient. this site is very slow although at no stage did the site lock up.

    best regards,

    happy new year

Even though they had all the problems, this is still the best airport car park I have used and would recomend to anyone.

In general I found the facility and service good and a better alternative to the rip off airport
    car parks.
On ocassion I had my bag stolen in Franfurt with passport ,plus various items including the car park ticket. They were very helpful and only charged me for the time the car was there. If it had been the airport car park you would have to pay for the week if you don;t produce a ticket.
So they get my vote, and Its cheaper than the other car parks !

Tips : Arrive early if you don’t have a booking and you should get in.
Write down the lane no on the ticket & tie a ribbon on your aerial in case you don’t remember when you return.

“Spaces would be available”? What does that mean exactly, that if the site was working spaces would be there? That’s pretty poor service for an experienced professional company, and pretty poor English skills.

I always used quickpark for years

but they have now overcomplicated their website and made it impossible to book

The computer people have obivously got hold of it

they could do with a “contact us “facility

unfortunately its back to the DAA for me
