Time for bed, I can still hear her warmly tell me, but it was early and still bright I was fourteen years old, and my friends were in the park, the pillows were put under the blankets and shaped to look like someone asleep the light woud go off, the window would silently open and I would creep out, and run like the wind, the park gates were locked, but that was no deterrent, I had scaled them many times, what had I missed, would I get into trouble, it did not matter once inside the park it was another diminsion another time a wonderland. the ducks and swans would shout out their welcome as I ran by I would apologise for forgetting their bread and tell them I would bring some tomorrow, the closer I got to the bandstand in the park I could hear the laughing from my friends, I knew their voices their sounds, I would scale another gate to bring me to them, they woudl laugh at me, I was there I had escaped for a little while, the fun would then begin. we would go into the playground ajacent to the park, hopefully the swings were left out , we were lucky there they were we woud jump on one each and swing away singing and laughing, the boys would come over to us they would play hand ball and then chase us around the playground, till some neighbours came out and shooed us away, I'll call the guards if you don;t go home they would shout at us.

We would all run, laughing and talking, we would run back to the Baisin Park and sit on the benches, some one would always have sweets we would get a bom bom each, we would suck it forever and make it last as long as we could, then we would climb back over the gate to the baisin pond, it was our wonderland our disney our funpark with no amusements or ferris wheels just our imagineation which was never ending, I would fly home as fast as my two feet would carry me back to Blessington Street steal back into my bed and say my prayers. and dream about tomorrow night.when my adventure woud begin all over again.
Such wonderful times,

I spent the last two summers playing at the Blessington Basin while visiting my Nana. I can't wait till this summer to go back to the Basin and play with my friends on Auburn Street. I love to feed the ducks and swans and ride my bike around the Basin. My mother played there as a girl and it's one of my favorite places to play also.

I was so lucky to live in Upper Blessington St, Right beside the Baisin Park it was my playground as I grew up, we would go up daily and feed the swans and the ducks we would play games and chase the boys what happy days they were glorious days of sunshine and rain it did not matter, we built our den across from the rusty hill where we would go and sit in rusty cars and dream, life was so good .from Blessington ~St right up to the State Cinema, the Roma cafe for the chips on the way home on a Sunday evening when the lads sat behind us and pulled our hair.

My ancestors lived in Blessington Street 200 years ago and so last week I visited the area and found Blessington Basin. I thought it a wonderful little oasis on the edge of the City. What a nice aspect those houses have - pity it was raining when I was there. Nevertheless I enjoyed its peacefulness, also your pictures thank you.

I love this park and the streets in and around Fontenoy Street. It makes my walk to the Kings Inns from Glasnevin very pleasant indeed. I was going to blog about it, but it looks like you've beaten me to it. And very impressively too.
