Thats a very sweeping statement Daragh. Heidi is right, its not the locals puking in Temple Bar. And there is a lot more to Temple Bar than drinking and eating and, for us Daragh, work.

It may not be obvious, beyond the puke, but there is a vast array of cultural organisations based in Temple Bar. Off the top of my head, here are just a few: Project Arts Centre, Film Base, Irish Film Institute, Gallery of Photography, the Ark Childrens Centre, Black Church Print Studio, Temple Bar Music Centre. The full list can be found here.

There are many events organised, especially in Temple Bar Square and Meeting House Square. Infact this Sunday, as part of the Diversions festival, a free open air concert will take place in Meeting House Square featuring Seamus Heaney and Liam O’Flynn, the internationally acclaimed uilleann piper.

So folks, look beyond the pubs and the puke and discover the real reason Temple Bar is described as the Cultural Quarter.

I know that the Irish like to drink but it seems the tourists are the ones puking, not the locals. There are also better places to drink.

Heidi,

Surely you've been living here long enough now to realise that Irish culture is quite often about going out and drinking as much as you possibly can, forgetting your own name, where you live, vomiting on the street, and getting into a fight. So, I guess that makes Temple Bar very cultural!!
