Dublin Airport evacuated in Bomb Scare
Daragh | July 4, 2006Ok, little late in getting to this, apologies.
It would appear that about 1 hour ago, at 13:45, Dublin Airport was evacuated due to a bomb scare. Apparently a man, who has since been arrested by Airport Police walked into the main terminal building carrying a suspicious package. The Army Bomb Disposal squad are en route to the airport and I will have more details as soon as I can find them…
UPDATE 14:58
It would appear that planes are still landing in the Airport, and that one or two flights have made it off the ground since this alert begun, last departure was at 14:34 for Milan.
Ryanair have a notice on their website stating that the airport is closed until further notice. Other reports say that Airport Police have sealed all entry and exit roads to the airport, but for now there is no advice for intending passengers and where they should go. More shortly…
UPDATE 15:02
A Dublin Airport spokesperson has just announced that flights are not expected to resume until at least 16:00 (sounds conservative). The Army Bomb Disposal Squad have just arrived on-site and are setting themselves up to investigate the incident.
UPDATE 15:09
Gardai and Airport Police are appealing to people to be sensible about getting to the airport. Apparently passengers are arriving at the Airport and just abandoning their cars and rushing to the airport terminal, causing all kinds of people and traffic managment problems for them. AA Roadwatch are also reporting that traffic on both the M1 at Dublin Airport, and the old Swords road at the airport is becoming very heavy. Hopefully things will start to ease off in the next two hours before the evening rush begins.
UPDATE 15:35
A Dublin Airport spokeswoman has just said the following: “There was a full evacuation at approximately 13.50 following a declaration by a gentleman in arrivals that he had a bomb in a bag, He was subsequently arrested and is now in garda custody.
UPDATE 15:38
The following update has just been released by the Dublin Airport Authority on their website
The Gardaà have declared that Dublin Airport is safe for operations.
The airport has not yet re-opened and details will be given as soon as possible about a phased re-opening.
UPDATE 16:02
Our final update on this story comes from the DAA website….
Operations have now resumed at Dublin Airport.
Flights will resume within the next hour.
Passengers are advised that there will be delays, but Dublin Airport Authority and the airlines will make every effort to minimise disruption to passengers.

I feel I should point out that when the Gardai declare Dublin Airport is safe for operations they mean as safe as ever it was.
Your still probably going to have to queue and hope no one calls a wildcat baggage strike to discuss their pay increases.
LOL!
Isn’t there some sort of union protest on Thursday? Read it somewhere I think. Else I was dreaming !
Yup, there is. SIPTU needs to have a meeting to discuss with the Aer Lingus workers wether the governments offer of €250 Million of taxpayers money offered to the 1800 of them in a deal to compensate for privatization is enough. As a result the airport will have to shut down. Why they cant meet at a time outside of working hours I dont understand. Nor do I understand why they all have to meet at the same time and thereby force a shut down.
But on the up side is this could be the last time they do this because if they tried this stunt in the private sector their next mass gathering would be in the dole office.
That is just completely nuts. The driving testers did the very same thing a few weeks ago. Cancelling tests for people who’ve waited more than 52 weeks for their test. How can public sector get away with pulling stunts like this? Does this sort of thing happen in other countries?
