Viking Splash Tour

RedMum | July 12, 2006

One of the more fun, as well as informative and touristy things to do in Dublin is the Viking Splash Tour.

I’ve done it a couple of times and it is mighty craic. The tour guides are friendly, fun and keep up the banter throughout the trip.Starting at St Patrick’s Cathedral the tour brings you all over Dublin city centre before going down to Ringsend where you then get to don some lifejackets before plunging into Grand Canal Basin for a 20 minute jaunt. The ‘ducks’ as they are called are reconditioned WW2 amphibious military vehicles which were apparently built by women or so one of the guides during one trip informed us. And they are full of great stories making it a really interesting trip.

And to top it all off you get to wear viking hats and shout/yell/plunder and pillage innocent bystanders – excellent.

Kids love it, adults have fun, everyone is happy. It would work out expensive for a large family outing or as a treat for kids parties. But there are discounts and sure the movies works out expensive anyway and the tour is much better craic. Here’s some information on prices and times from their website.

I’ve always wondered what that tour was like. They were recently taken over by the Sea Safari people. I’ve been on one of those trips out to Dalkey island and its really good fun, especially if the sea is a bit choppy. I didn’t bring my camera which was silly of me as there were some great photo opportunities.
