Art on the Green

RedMum | August 18, 2006

St Stephen’s Green is surrounded by lots and lots of art today and probably over the weekend too. Go have a look and maybe buy yourself a piece of art. Don’t forget as well to catch the annual People’s Photography exhibition which will be held around St Stephen’s Green on August 26 and 27. And you will definitely want to buy something there, check out Rymus one of the photographers who will be exhibiting and selling over that weekend.

This week it looks like its “peoples art” next weekend it’s “peoples photography”. Same idea, just for photography instead of art.

Photography is a form of art so it’s two weekends of art. Nexgt weekend is also the cultural festival.

I as in Dublin St Stephens Green 19/20th August. There was a lady artist working in stained glass. I thought exhibition would be on all week, therefore, lost chance to buy a piece of her work. She was the only artist working in stained glass on that day. S.O.S i would really appreciate if anyone knows where or how i may contact this lady to ask whether i could still purchase a piece of her work. Here’s hoping!
    Thanks, Pauline, London.

There are 3 ways I can think of.
Firstly, glass requires quite an amount of effort to work with so she may do it full time and may be listed on http://www.craftireland.com/

Secondly the organisers will have a list of who was at the event since each space is allocated. Unfortunately I dont know who ran this event, and cant find a web page but the people at http://www.peoples-photography.com/ who had a show the following week might know.

Thirdly, if you fancy another trip to Dublin there is a National Craft Fair held in the RDS around the start of December each year. This year it starts on the 6th of December and runs for 5 days. If you liked the St Stephens Green exhibition then you would probably like the Craft Fair, and there is a good chance she would have a stand there as well. In fact if you could track down a web site for those they might have a list as well.

HI – I know this page is about the People’s photography on the Green – but does anyone know how I’d go about entering the People’s Art exhibition that’s held on the green? I keep hitting a wall on this info!!

[...] Seeing as how the last time I didn’t have time to take many pics I decided to try and capture the atmosphere until a very rude and aggressive artist practically jumped at me telling me that I could not take pictures of artist’s original work. I didn’t have the heart to say that I actually wasn’t, that actually I was taking pictures of people looking at the work. As a result particularly following my earlier lovely encounter of friendly banter with Sheila and Dan I have decided to omit the pictures I took which included his work. [...]

I drove past the art along Stephen’s Green one day at the end of June but was unable to stop and look. I haven’t seen it since so if anyone knows when it might next be showing i would love to go down and have a look.

Hi Kate – I’m not sure about the Stephens Green art schedule, but the railings around Merrion Square have art exhibited every Saturday and Sunday.

I think the Peoples Art exhibit was a couple of weeks ago, probably the end of June when you saw it.

The Peoples Photography one is on around the Green on August 24th. I prefer that and the photographers never get enough of a look in during the rest of the year so it’s worth a visit.

Hi Mary Paz. There is a website here with links to exhibiting artists. You are probably best of emailing one of them there for more info.

The peoples art is on 3 times a year. A weekend in June, August and September, as June and August are gone the next dates are Friday18-20 September.
Times are from 10am to 6pm each day, I will be showing some of my work there this september so please come along and support us…….comments on the art most welcome and purchases are appreciated grately, dont be afraid to haggle most artists will not be insulted. a sale helps them pay for framing and most importantly encourages them to paint more

Merrion square is on each weekend always the same artists where as Stephens Green offers a chance for artists who dont have a pitch on Merrion to show their work

15% off for anyone who mentions this website when purchasing my work

    thanks

I was at either the People’s Art or People’s Photography in Aug 2004. I was with a friend who saw this goldfish piece. He loved it and now that he is turning 30, I’d love to get it for him. I have no idea how to track it down as I have no idea who the artist is. What I remember about it was that it was a single koi or goldfish and that he thought it looked trippy, psychedelic something. I know its a long shot, but anyone with a lead on this, I would be indebted to you.
