Rebecca of Sunny Brook Farm, I wasn't writing a history of airconditioning, but thanks for that.

Youse are being rather pedantic, I meant it was built before they thought of putting in airconditioning, something that is still not commonplace in building even today in Ireland, I thought that was obvious. Its also clear in the piece that its my thoughts, as in I would hate to work there.

Anyway thanks for commenting.

Liberty Hall, a 16-storey landmark building in Dublin’s skyscape, which was built before air-conditioning; is to be demolished.
WHO ever wrote this is stupid.
While moving heat via machinery to provide air conditioning is a relatively modern invention, the cooling of buildings is not. Wealthy ancient Romans circulated aqueduct water through walls to cool their luxurious houses.

In 1902 the first modern electrical air conditioning was invented by Willis Haviland Carrier in Syracuse, NY. Designed to improve manufacturing process control in a printing plant, his invention controlled not only temperature but also humidity. The low heat and humidity were to help maintain consistent paper dimensions and ink alignment. Later Carrier's technology was applied to increase productivity in the workplace, and The Carrier Air Conditioning Company of America was formed to meet rising demand. Over time air conditioning came to be used to improve comfort in homes and automobiles. Residential sales expanded dramatically in the 1950s.
.
So there; the building you refer to was built a long time passed the availabilty of air conditioning to be installed; your presentation is very poor.

built before air conditioning? how is that possible? it looks so modern.
reminds me of the skyscrapers in moscow that they built without elevators--or, apparently, stairs.
