You might like to know that there was a Rickshaw service running around Brighton city in Sussex, UK for a couple of years, but taxi drivers made it virtually impossible for the Rickshaw drivers to provide the kind of service that people wanted, especially since they had to run more like a bus - i.e. on a fixed route, and so many people wanted it to run more like a taxi service.
I believe that the service has now been discontinued - I think by the company concerned because of all the limitations and restrictions imposed.
I'm sure that there will be details on the web concerning these.

Perhaps try www.bbc.co.uk/southerncounties and then searching for Rickshaw or Rickshaws on their website.

I think these tuk-tuks could be used in alot of cities around the world, if not only as basic transportation, but also in tourism, and also as a way to save fuel and to help the poor in these trying times.
I am a pedicab and rickshaw rider/runner from Australia and I have over 20 cities and 15 years experience and I dont understand why such simple and practical ideas such as tuk-tuks are not utilised. I work in Surfers Paradise, which is one of Australia's premiere domestic tourist destinations and I have seen one particular tuk-tuk operating illegally here for a few years. It has Queensland Transport registration but does not hold a taxi licence. Customers thought the service was fantastic and convenient but the powers that be quickly "put the kaibosh on it".
I am very interested in discussing alternative transportation. You can reach me at, savemarkus@yahoo.com

yea thats a great idea im in india right now and the richshaws are amazing . . no matter how many cars are in the city these nifty richshaws are never standing still for long if they can handle indian traffic they can certainly handle inner city dublin!!
but obviously they would have to be more inclosed but i dont see why not id use them ... the only thing id be concerned about is emissions there not exactly eco friendly!!

As an Indian well used to rickshaws, I consider them a cheap mode of transport but am not sure if that would hold true in Ireland.... One can hope though. I think they would an interesting addition to the roads but can we handle the extra traffic in Dublin??

I'd rather not think about how much it would cost to get a ride in one of these in Dublin.
