I think that it should not matter how much the band interact with the crowd, i thought the killers were excellent even though they sang much the same as on their album, i think its the whole thing of seeing your fave band on stage and the atmosphere thats created that should count. I have been to a lot of concerts where there is not much crowd/band interaction and it has never bothered me before.

The name of the joy division song is "shadowplay". I do not like the original version much though, i would much prefer the killers version. Apparently the killers version will be on the soundtrack for a film later on in the year.

A musician friend of mine says he likes to play things differently on stage compared to on cd. Change things for the live show.

That sucks that you didnt enjoy the concert. I am a huge fan of The Killers too. I don't like it much when bands barely say anything to their fans - fans who have spent a heck of a lot of money to see them be extremely repetitive on stage when, as you said, they could just go home and listen to the albums on a great sound system.

I also went to see the killers in the RDS. I thought they were fantastic, i am a huge fan of them. I was delighted that i got to see them play live and was not bothered that they did not interact much with the crowd or sing anything other than what was on their albums, i suppose they want any new stuff that they are writng to be a surprise for their new album. Was that a joy devision song? I've been trying to find out what song it was because i thought it was great. I paid way more than 60E as the tickets had sold out and i had to pay more for it, but i thought the killers were worth it.

Ahh, pacific northwest. And all I have to offer from Kentucky is My Morning Jacket. And Bonnie Prince Billy. Not to mention a fine band called Lone Official who no one's heard of, and it's a damn shame.

No, the mid-show calisthenics were particularly charming. I've never crouched on command at a show, and I have to say I didn't feel silly doing it. That's gotta say something...

Good to hear, Grims. Lots of good music coming from my home region of the U.S. (pacific northwest).

I agree though - some bands try too hard with the stage antics and it bombs. What I liked about The Decemberists (and particularly, their front man, Colin Meloy) is how they engaged the audience. Seeing the mid-show calistenics from up in the balcony, for example, was hilarious! That kind of participation practically puts fans and band on the same stage together.

Brandon, I was there at the Decemberists--I tend towards thinking the sort of stage presence is unbearably cheesy but it turned out to be tons of fun. I think in those situations you have to just ride the wave.
Music's good too-for some reason the concert was my first real exposure to it. Went straight onto my iPod, in fact.
