This is precisely the type of positive, outside-the-box forward thinking we need to solve our inner city transport problems. No wear and tear on the street surfaces [will save Euros in repairs], no congestion, no delays, absolute avoidance of road accidents [big saving for the health service]. Only a few people in each cab - well, that might be a drawback, but I'm sure the experts could work on that and come up with more bright and breezy initiatives. Nonsense! Don't get me wrong, it's probably a great idea, but lets get to the priorities first and fix the roads and congestion before we start putting people flying across the city. I can just see it now, cable car breaks down and no one can get to it because it's hanging over the water and there's too much traffic clogginfing the streets for the fire brigade to get through. I think they would be better off building a better road infrastructure than something like that. The London Eye is a well-designed landmark ferris wheel, lines of this type - everything from telecoms and ESB lines to lines over trams - are seen as eyesores. For a long time utilities wires have been put underground in urban centres, here and more so in other countries. Wires for trams are another story, but with a new tram system in Bordeaux the wires are put underground in the city centre. It’s a good idea if you want to turn Dublin into a tourist trap, you could say a Disneyland.
