When you look at the topography of south County Dublin the only place for the Green Luas to extend is either towards Bray or towards Tallaght. The Dublin mountains are too formidable barrier for today’s railway Engineers.

I took the Luas one morning during the week at rush hour and it was a disaster. I was getting on at Windy Arbour which is stop 8 of 13 from the city centre. By the time they reached me they were full to bursting. People could not get on or off. I had to wait for a couple of trams before I could get on one. When they extend the lines the problems will just get worse.

Luas is vital to Bray , new Town centre , connector for North Wicklow , South County Dublin ect. That said it will stop outside my Apt block and naturally i'm delighted.
I'm also aware that when the Luas arrives so will lots more Apt blocks and cars.I like the green spaces from Bray to Rathmichael/Enniskerry too but the DLROCO area plan has earmarked massive development for this area up to 2015.
Trust me this will be the place to live in by 2015.

im from bray so im going to be massivly biased but re the last point:no-one in their right mind would take the luas to the city centre its for dundrum/sandyford/cherrywood and when the new bray shopping centre is built so people from those areas can get to bray.
bray is one of the largest towns in the country aswell so it makes sense to link with the largest city rather than giving bus routes to every town in the country where there would be some demand but nowhere near as great as in greater dublin area.
to be honest the other cities probably need this more than us though

Dec, I wonder if the Green Line extension is meant to connect Bray with Sandyford industrial estate. ?? Other than that, you're right - Bray already has the DART and when the Green Line finally does get out to Bray, the DART will probably reach the city centre much faster than the LUAS.

There are two million people (including visitors) in the greater Dublin area. Over 60% of taxes are collected in this area. That's why the focus is (rightly) on Dublin for investment. The proof that ongoing investment is required, can be seen at rush hour anywhere in Dublin. LUAS, DART, Arrow are all jammed with people; the roads are like car parks; the buses stuffed to overflowing. The people in the towns dotted around the country have no idea what a traffic jam is. Try sitting in a car or bus, without moving an inch, for a full half hour on a rainy Friday night on a main artery in Dublin. THAT's a traffic jam!

Whatever about Dublin where every area has at the very least Dublin Bus while many have/will have Dublin Bus, the Dart, The Luas and The Metro.

The rest of the country hasn't got a public transportation system that would be acceptable to third world countries. Where there are rail lines they are either disused (western line) or dangerously undermaintained (Limerick Junction to Rosslare). Many bus timetables still include elements such bi-weekly pickup when bi-hourly would be considered poor in Dublin.

It's time to tell the people of Bray and many other parts of Dublin to use the existing 2 or 3 public transportation options they currently have and instead start to invest some of those hundreds of billions disappearing into the Dublin transport black hole in providing one decent frequent service to all towns across the country.
