Moving to Dublin?
Heidi | November 5, 2007When moving to a new city, it can be a challenge to figure many thing out. You need to learn the way the city works, the names of utility companies, where to get groceries, perhaps what banks are in the area. Since many people have asked more about cost of living in Dublin, I am providing some information so that people can find out what they need to know themselves.Â
So, grocery stores. The main grocery stores are Tesco, Superquinn, Dunnes stores, and Marks and Spencers.
The electric company is ESB and the gas company is Bord Gais.
You can get cable from Sky TV or NTL or Smart Telecom if you are in their area.
Telephone: you have a lot of choices based on where you live. The main phone company is Eircom but you can also get phone service from Smart Telecom, NTL, or BT.
Internet: you can get your internet service with the phone service from any of the above service providers and there are many others as well.
Banks: the main ones are Halifax, Permanent TSB, Bank of Ireland, AIB, Bank of Scotland, and Ulster bank.

Handy tip for moving home: Websites like moveme.com and upmystreet can come in very useful for moving home/finding out about your new area… local shops, schools etc etc.
by the way, I looking for banks such as HSBC, Standard Chartered in Dublin. Can anyone advise?
Hello, we are an italian couple and we want to go to Dublin for living for a while (between 1 and 2 years). Our goals for this experience is to improve our english (we already talk but we want more) and get experience in our job fields. She works in the art management field and I work in the hotel industry as a manager of a hostel.
We want to know, How can we get a job? or Where can we try to find it? How hard is to rent an apartment in Dublin? Do you know some websites about this topics?
Thank you very much.
Two very handy websites for all Dublin visitors are http://www.doindublin.com (especially the fourm page) and http://www.freedublin.com

Hello ;-D
I probably move to Dublin sooner than soon… spontaneously within 2 weeks. I woud really appreciate your help regarding housing. My experience is that every city has its own “insider” internet-potal regarding renting an appartment, sublet and roommaid-situations. What are the secret hints in Dublin in case of soon-sooner-soonest-relocationers?
Thanx & Greets from Germany

Julia, http://www.daft.ie is your friend
Yet, you won’t be able to get anything of it before you move. And after you move – look for the one close to work. And I can promise you – it will be tough
Hmmm, that almarabb.com site seems a bit dodgy, stick with daft.ie. Usually people leave a phone number with thier ad, you can call them even if your not in Ireland to see what they have on offer.

website still looks like it was designed by a school kid
I was just wondering what the average living cost in Dublin is? What is the average income or salary? How much is it for a single persons accomodations?
Thanks
Hi everyone – I’m seriously considering taking a job in Dublin. My salary range would probably be up to 43,000. I currently live the the US. I’m married and in the US we are a two income household and at least in the beginning will be a one income upon moving to Dublin. I’ve checked a number of sites and it looks like we’d only afford to live in the north side, which is fine with me. I’m wondering thoughts on a one income, no kids but two dogs, at 43,000 living in Dublin? I appreciate everyones help thank you.
Hello, I had gott a offer to move to Dublin with a salary of 22, 000 Euro per year ( about 400 Euro per week after taxes). I had hear that Dublin is very expensive, Could I make it? or it is too litlle? where can i get accurate info about living cost , specially small apartments? Thank you for any comments. Marc
You should also try http://www.helpiammoving.com established for over 10 years, you don’t need to register and all information is written from over 20 years in the removal industry rather than hearsay.
