We have Christmas lights
Daragh | November 10, 2008
It really doesn’t matter that we are 45 days before the Christmas – we already have Christmas lights! A plenty of people gathered yesterday on O’Connell Street. A lot of kids, some entertainment and, finally, the Christmas Tree. The structure weights five tonnes and is composed of 100,000 bulbs of different sizes.
Dubliners, go to shopping! (actually, the Lady Mayor said that, not me)

is that another waste of money?
So much for the ozone layer!
actually i saw the tree and it’s really really nice, it brings another kind of atmosphere to o connell street, hope it will survive till christmas
i have not spoke to anyone who said it was a good idea’ it does not bother me but a bit unfair
to the families who are having it tough as it is.
What happened to the traditional Christmas Tree we normally have at least that could be recycled. What happens to this one when its taken down. A waste of money as far as i can see.
I walk by this tree everyday and think that the traditional Christmas tree would have looked so much better than this contraption. I also noticed that some of the light bulbs have already stopped working
The Dublin City Council and Dublin City Business Association expect this tree to become ‘a symbol of hope in these challenging economic times’ yet it was designed by a French company. They could have paid a local company to design a tree and that perhaps would have provided more substance to the ‘symbol of hope’ claim.
I must admit, the concept of putting the tree up to encourage shopping worked on me – I immediately got in the Christmas spirit and started buying gifts!!
Love it – it just makes you smile!
The above picture of Christmas tree looks really awsome no matter if some of the bulbs not working out of 1 Lac bulbs. That definately not going to affect its beauty. I feel great to watch such a beautiful Christmas tree. Thanks Cristian for shaing this information with us.
and look here how people got mad around the tree saturday night
