Body to body

nathalie | January 6, 2009

Interesting exhibition coming our way.

bodies

Bodies has already been to New York, Paris, Amsterdam and Budapest and features “real, whole and partial body specimens that have been dissected and preserved through an innovative process.”

Freaky or what?

I would love to be able to say something positive about the show but my sons effort to see it was an exercise in how not to run an exhibition. My son is studying physiotherapy and booked a ticket online. He thought he had booked it for Sunday however when he downloaded the verification details on Sunday that would allow him to retrieve his ticket at the door, he realised he got the dates wrong and he had actually booked for the previous day, Saturday. He traveled to the exhibition anyway. He assumed that as it could be verified that the ticket had not been retrieved the day before there would be no problem once there was not a problem with numbers going in. He explained the mistake he made and asked could anything be done. He was met with a flat refusal to accomodate him and refused him entry unless he bought another ticket. He did not have the money and had to go home. Bearing in mind he decided to buy his ticket online plus an extra 3 euro charge but could have bought it at the door i am outraged that he was refused entry when it could be verified that he had not retreived his ticket. This was a studet that was entralled by Mr Roy Glovers account on the Mooney Show, of what the exhibition had to offer. What harm could it have done to simply verify that he had not used his ticket the day before. The exhibits may have been dead but it would appear that rip off Ireland is alive and kicking.

Thats disgraceful Anthony. I hope a strong worded complaint was written.

I wonder what “limited run” means. Tickets seem to be onsale up to July!

I would advise people not to patronise this exhibition, unlike the more reputable “Bodyworlds”, which has a waiting list of people across the world who are willing to be placed in the exhibition, “Bodies…” use only Chinese people and has been unable to verify that they are not executed political prisoners. Compare the two on Wikipedia. That said, it is fascinating, I only wish I’d known before I saw it in Prague.

Went to see the “Bodies” exhibition last week, and for someone who is big into autopsies, etc, I was in heaven!! How amazing and thought provoking. Even brought himself who doesn’t like anything dead and he enjoyed it. It’s great to think about how the body works and how we can affect our health. Well worth seeing, plus made me seriously consider how I might like to end up when I’m dead, and you know what, being in an exhibition like that, teaching, educting and entertaining doesn’t seem like a half bad idea. I daresay, the “Shop”, was small and quite expensive for souveniers, but sure aren’t all gift shops in Eire like that these days?

I went to see this exhibition yesterday evening. I thinks its very educational and its fascinating to see how the body works. I am conscious of the ethics of where the bodies were sourced, but I made the decision to go along. I would like to see the Gunther von Hagens exhibition also.

I went to the exhibition with my son and his friend. A friend of mine came too, I went to book the tickets online until I saw the booking fee of 12 euros!…so I went in to get tickets. I personally think were very expensive. Plus you must book what hour you want to enter, if you turn up after the booked hour you won’t get in plus you will not gety a refund. When inside the Ambassodor was very smelly with no decent air conditioning. It wasn’t the bodies it was the filthy carpet that had ancient stains on it. And finally, I would like to know where they got the tiny foeteus’s?…I too question the ethics surrounding this exhibition. Especially the one of the exhibits is a full human body sliced up like cold meat from the meat slicer…Now whats the point of that?..Its degrading in my opinion!…I was not impressed overall!

    Hi,
I’m planning on paying this exhibition a visit over the weekend. Def wont be booking the tickets online-thanks for the tip.
But i noticed that you have to choose what time frame you will be entering during.
Does anyone know if you only have the hour to look around or are you left to your own devices and leave when you are ready?
I heard that these bodies have been donated to science-is that not true?

Hi. I went to the exhibition on may 31st, when down in Dublin for the marathon. I didnt actually know what it was till I was in! But I must say I really enjoyed it, it was interesting and entertaining.

The section of babies is at the side, you dont need to look if you dont want to.

I must have spent a good 90 mins in the exib, Its got plenty in it and I took my time to see everything. You aren’t restricted to time, and I think the best option is to just buy a ticket there at the desk.

I highly recommend it to everyone. It was so interesting, weirdly entertaining. I did question why they had the bodies in such odd poses with props though.
