That’s Interesting

Daragh | March 7, 2007

I asked the other day about people’s drinking habits in their local coffee shop thinking that it was going to produce some interesting results, and, so far, I’m suprised at what the poll shows. I’d never have thought that latte was going to be the most popular drink, and was going to be closely followed by tea. I’m even more surprised by the fact that Cappuccino is so low. I’d be really interested to hear peoples thoughts on this, and also to see more people voting in our poll over there >>>>

What do you drink?

Daragh | March 4, 2007

Us Dublin Bloggers were talking amongst ourselves last night, about how coffee always seems to spark off a good response here on the blog, and so, I’ve decided to check out what it is that people actually drink at their coffee shops, in view of Marieke’s post about Hot Chocolate last week. So, we have a poll running over there on the right where you can let us know what it is that you usually drink at your coffee shop. If there’s anything missing off the list, let us know here. I’m going to leave the poll run for a bit to get a good spread of opinion.

Liberty Hall to be demolished

RedMum | October 23, 2006

We are a bit late posting this seeing as how it was in the news late last week and mentioned on various other blogs, but Liberty Hall, a 16-storey landmark building in Dublin’s skyscape, is to be demolished.

It is a fairly ugly building which was built before air-conditioning and having worked in buildings without air-conditioning, Liberty Hall must be torturous to work in with all those windows and sun streaming in all day from all directions. I will lament the loss of the view however and will endeavour to get back up again to get more shots of Dublin from the top. Meanwhile here’s one I prepared earlier.

Let us know your thoughts on what should be done with Liberty Hall by participating in our latest poll.

Christmas Shopping – in October

Daragh | October 18, 2006

I hate this, HATE HATE HATE, did I mention HATE? Shops all around Dublin already have started putting their Christmas decorations / presents / cards etc out onto the shelves. In fact, it’s more than started, following on from a quick stroll around Dublin yesterday, it would already appear that the Christmas rush is in full swing, vying (and winning!) with halloween for shelf space!

I know this is one that gets many people going, and with so many people hating the fact that Christmas starts so early, it always makes me wonder why the shops go ahead with it…obviously there are some people out there who think it’s a great idea!

To that end, our latest poll asks the question, Some Dublin stores have already opened their Christmas shops. How do you feel about this?. Go answer, it’s over there, to the right of the page, and let’s see just how many people think Christmas shopping in early October is a good thing!!

Monaghan campaigners to bring chaos to M50

Daragh | September 29, 2006

I’ve just read with disgust that protestors from Monaghan, aggrieved (admittedly genuinely) with the downgrading of the emergency status of the hospital recently, are planning on taking their protest from their locality in Monaghan, to cause traffic and transport chaos along the M50 in Dublin.

They are operating under the belief that the seat of power for the country is in Dublin, and until they start to hurt the people of Dublin, that their local issues will not be listened to or addressed.

Now, I for one have serious issues with this. Whilst I have no issues with people expressing their grievances with various powers of authority on any occasion, such are the joys and benefits of democracy, I have a serious issue with people purposely setting out to cause misery and suffering to innocent bystanders who, in this case, already have a miserable time trying to negotiate their way through Dublin traffic to start with!!

What makes this all the more galling, is the fact that The Monaghan Community Hospital Alliance (MCHA) chairman, Peadar Mc Mahon, recognises the fact that he will cause innocent bystanders to suffer “People have died as a result of the downgrading of Monaghan Hospital. We are prepared to go to any lengths to remove that anxiety,”

If you wish to voice your anger, support or otherwise with this cause, please feel free to comment here, participate in our poll (see right) or, contact the Monaghan Hospital Alliance direct, contact details are:

Taxi Poll

Daragh | September 11, 2006

So, our last Poll asked who you thought was going to win the All Ireland Football Final, Mayo or Kerry, and 65% of you think that Mayo will win. We will know the outcome shortly.

But, to our new poll, over on the right, do you agree with the taxi drivers protests that have been taking place today, and over the past few weeks? Let us know your thoughts!
